Visual Adversity
Adversity Art
John Singleton Copley, The Death of Major Peirson, 1783
This relates to adversity because it shows the struggling and hard time some of the soldiers went through. They still were fighting the battle even though one of their majors had fallen into death.
Francisco Goya, The Third of May 1808, 1814
This relates because it shows what the people went through on the third of may. It was very hard for them because so many of their people were getting killed off from martyrdom.
Emanuel Leutze, George Washington Crossing the Delaware, 1851
This is a famous painting clearly showing the famous story of George Washington crossing the Delaware. He sailed across even though the conditions were terrible and it was all for war purposes.
Barnaby Furnas, Untitled (Antietam), 2008
This painting depicts the ideals behind racism. That the US will still be fighting against itself against all of the social adversities we face, and when we can’t be socially just and sound as one nation.
Norman Rockwell, Freedom from Want, 1943
This painting was made during WWII when all of the families wanted their spouse of relatives home for the holidays to be with them. That it was a very simple adversity they faced but it was hard on the families of our nation as a whole.
